Demand 99%

 First off, as I promised last post, here is one of my poems from the August Poetry Postcard Fest

#15  (Olvera Street Postcard)

Lie to me
when it matters most.
Tell me tomorrow
we will be lovers.
Tell me we will love
as we did in a past life,
when i was a crow,
and you were a stellar jay.
Love me like you did
when we sat atop the maple tree
and sang songs all day

Now, here is a ballad I wrote a few years ago.  The last verse was the inspiration for a painting I did during one of the Forgotten Works 30 in 30 challenges I took part in (see below).

 Pre Revolution Stretching

Systemized in America
Most of us in debt
Some get nickels and dimes
Some have fives and tens

Some carry more than that
Some get none at all
The banks have all the money
We borrow and we crawl

The divide grows wider
Politicians play their games
Law to the highest bidder
Stealing without shame

Not so much united
It’s stars versus stripes
Ruled by fear
The News reduced to hype

To build it all again
We don’t have to burn it down
The sunrise is approaching
And sleepy is the town

Finally, some notes from T.V. Reed's The Art of Protest

The functions of culture in movements:
* Encourage
* Empower
* Harmonize
* Inform Internally
* Inform Externally
* Enact Movement Goals
* Historicize
* Transform affect or tactics
* Critique movement ideology

* Make Room for Pleasure
